Worth(ington) debating

Our first week back after half term and we made a start on our World Challenge badge and looked at debating.

The Scouts came up with some potential topics and the Scouts then voted on which ones they wanted to debate. The two points for discussion were agreed to be: Should animals be kept in zoos? and Should schools exist?

The debates were expertly chaired by Paul, motions were proposed, seconded and then debated. Everyone contributed to the discussions, with some Scouts making some excellent points. The Scouts were able to make relevant contributions to the discussion and made their points well.

It was a great session, which was handled very maturely on the part of the Scouts. They were able to respect others’ opinions whilst making their own views known.

It’s a shame some of our politicians weren’t present…they could have learned a thing or two!
