Parliament Week is an annual event aimed at getting our young people learning and embracing how our democracy works. It does not instil political ideas or beliefs, nor is such discussion embraced in Scouting as a all-encompassing apolitical organisation welcoming any young person from any belief or background.
This year our Cubs visited Trafford Town Hall on Thursday 14th November and met with Sale-born and bred Mayor Robert Chilton who answered a wide breadth of questions for 90 minutes whilst showing the Cubs the differing rooms that the council operates in and the wide variety of people and events he engages with in his role as Mayor.
The following week, Andrew and Tristan ran a meeting going through how debates and speeches are made in Parliament with candidates for the Sixer and Seconder positions. The votes are in, but like Parliament, we are not doing anything about it until 2020!
